|Agent behind Thibaut Courtois transfer to Real Madrid under criminal investigation - report
| sbothai The agent behind Thibaut Courtois move from Chelsea to Real Madrid is in hot water with the authorities. Christophe Henrotay brokered the deal that saw Belgian keeper Courtois move from Stamford Bridge to the Bernabeu in the summer. And that deal is not thought to be under investigation. However, Henrotay has also been involved in the transfers of Romelu Lukaku, Youri Tielemans and Leander Dendoncker in the past and it is those that are under criminal investigation by the authorities.
According to a report on financial news website De Tijd, Henrotay is under investigation for allegedly withholding millions of euros from the transfers of those big name players, among others. The report states that the complaint made to the authorities has been lodged by Peter Smeets, a football coach, who has worked with a lot of Belgium's top talent.
The pair are reported to have worked together over transfers until news of the alleged financial irregularities surfaced. sbothai Courtois left Stamford Bridge in the summer after failing to return to the club following the end of the World Cup in an attempt to force through a move. He got his wish, with Real stumping up a reported £32million for him, with the Blues signing Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao in a world record £72million deal for a keeper
And after leaving he left a bad taste in the mouths of Chelsea fans when he said: "I am now experiencing on a daily basis that Sergio Ramos is the best centre-back in the world. The level [at Real Madrid] sbothai is higher than at Chelsea. "[The Santiago Bernabeu] is twice as big [as Stamford Bridge], of course, it’s a very different feeling. "If you look forward you only see a wall of people, while at Stamford Bridge you can still see the sky or the hotel behind the grandstand."
